Being a Blessing During a Trial

I’ll always remember the day that my friend asked me to help her study for the National Bible Bee Competition. This was a few days after finding out that she qualified and I didn’t. I was still so upset and was so very tempted to tell her “No.” I didn’t want to have to think or talk about Bible Bee anymore and honestly, I almost didn’t even want to talk to her for a while because I envied her slightly. But you know what I did?

My Bible Bee Testimony

Note: This is a pretty long post, so be prepared.

I began writing this testimony during the Summer Study. I wanted to document the whole journey, but after I didn’t qualify, I couldn’t bear to open the file. I was even tempted to delete it. However, I did not.

This summer was an interesting one for me, both spiritually and emotionally.

There were some thing that I experienced that I had never experienced before. Yet, it has all caused me to grow closer to the Lord.

I hope that this testimony of mines encourages you, especially fellow Bible Bee-ers.

Keep pressing on, my friends. Keep pressing on.

Why I Love the Bible Bee

I am once again participating in the National Bible Bee Summer Study. What a blessing it has been to learn about what it means to be a witness and those who were persecuted for proclaiming the name of Jesus. It really has encouraged me to want to share the Gospel with others and that has become a constant prayer of mines lately.

It seems like this year, Bible Bee feels a bit different for me personally and I know why.

Suffer for His Name

Witnessing can be a pretty scary thing. We really don’t know what people will think or say when we try to share our faith and tell them about Jesus. And you know? The Enemy uses that fear to keep us from following the Great Commission.

What if they make fun of me?

Will they deny accepting Christ?

Will they think I’m stupid for believing in Someone I can’t see?

National Bible Bee – It’s that Time Again!

I would love to participate in the National Bible Bee. I thought to myself as I was looking on the website, back in mid-2019. Lord, please make a way for me to do so.

I’m grateful that I prayed the short prayer because I was given the opportunity to participate in the Summer Study last year. Although I did not qualify for the National competition, the Summer Study was a wonderful experience of learning how to efficiently get into God’s word through studying and memorizing it. I am glad that this program exists!

As I studied the story of Joseph, I learned so much about how to study my Bible and understand what He wanted me to learn. I heard Joseph’s story and watched Dreamworks, Joseph’s King of Dreams countless times, yet I never realized how vivid the theme of trust was. No matter the situation that he faced, he did not doubt God nor his faith and knew that God would work everything together for good.

It was a reminder of how much I need to trust God more. I always want to handle things by myself because I want things to go my way, but it never works out. I am not perfect and instead have a sin nature, but I can rely on Him for strength. He’s always near.

And do you want to know something? Well, I had been out of the habit of memorizing Scripture ever since I aged out of Vacation Bible School. I did not really have any motivation to keep doing it and never really realized how important it was to hide God’s word in my heart. But that certainly changed last year.

Whenever I did anything, whether that was washing the dishes, taking a shower, or even waking up, the passages that I was memorizing would always pop into my head. It was as if they became apart of me, which helped me to meditate on and think about how I could apply them to my life.

Like it says in Psalm 119:9, “How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.”

Hiding God’s word in our hearts helps us to keep our focus on Him and things that are above. I noticed that my mind was filled with thoughts about those passages and the main study passage the whole summer. And truly, there is no better to spend your time than with God. Doing that helps to grow your relationship with Him and you learn to trust Him more. Immerse yourself in His word and get it into you.

Although the Bible Bee has the National competition, that is not most important. Sure, it’s exciting if you are able to move on, but do not be discouraged if you don’t make it. Coming from experience, if you focus too much on trying to qualify, you’ll lose perspective on why you are spending your entire summer dedicated to be in God’s word. Instead, think about how you can glorify Christ through this experience and what will bring Him honor.
