When the Days Are Rough

Though this post is short, it is very raw and honest. Frankly, writing it was a challenge, but it was something the Lord placed on my heart, and He used it to encourage me. I pray that the words He gave me encourages your heart to continue seeking Him. 💛

No matter how much we wish we felt good every day, there’s always a day or two where we don’t, even if we don’t make it known. Sometimes it’s because we’re going through a trial. Or maybe we’re worked up about something that happened. Perhaps we’re feeling moody. Whatever the reason, those days come, most often without our knowledge.

Whenever I have a difficult day, sometimes it is hard to do things. Completing my assignments for school seems to take just a little extra effort. Often, I may not want to talk to anyone and would rather be by myself. And as the day progresses, I have to start fighting off lies from the Enemy. How annoying those thoughts can be, and all I want to do is try focusing on something so the negativity can stop. But the only way to fight is by dwelling on the Lord in His presence.

We do not have the strength or willpower to get through the battles alone. We are too weak for our good. Time and time again, we always want to rely on ourselves because we think we can handle the attacks. We think that we won’t become bogged down by them. But because we are weak, it’s easier to fall into the traps of the Enemy. It’s easier to take our eyes off God and not rely on Him. Though, when we are at our lowest, that is when we want everything to feel normal. We want the burden off our shoulders and to feel peace and joy again. It seems as if we forgot how to sing praises to the Lord and say ‘amen.’ We drown so far to the bottom that we don’t remember to trust God instead of ourselves.

When difficult days come, throwing a pity party for ourselves is much easier. But that is not what will get us through as we will only begin to feel worse because we’re dwelling on negativity instead of the joy of the Lord, as this is your strength.

My friend, when the days are hard, do not neglect your Savior. He is there to comfort you, extend grace, and lift you…hold onto Him.

And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. ~ 1 Peter 5:10

When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. ~ Psalm 34:17-18

Heart check: What are you dwelling on and running to when the days are hard? What is something that you can do to put your focus back on God?

To God be the glory,
