Monday Encouragement – Being Yourself

Have you ever found yourself trying to be a people pleaser? Have you ever felt like you didn’t fit in somewhere because you weren’t like the other people? Have you ever felt pressured by someone to do things you would never do and could result in sin?

We’re all flawed humans and will make mistakes. We will stumble because of struggles with temptation. The Enemy will try anyway possible to get us not to glorify Christ with our actions. Which is why we must stay firm in God’s word.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

Psalm 139:14

In my Geometry class, my classmates always jokingly tease me about how I enjoy taking tests. They say that I’m weird because I enjoy school so much. Honestly, this does not bother me, but instead makes me laugh. They think that I’m the most unusual person they’ve ever “met” and I’m truly okay with that. Who I am is how God created me to be, and with knowing that, I’m comfortable in my own skin, despite what they may say. I enjoy being considered the “weird” girl in my class because the aspects of me that my classmates think is strange is what truly makes me unique.

The same goes when I was at my old Youth Group. Most of the girls there weren’t serious about having a genuine relationship with God and came just for the socializing. I had a different reason for attending every week, thus, no one talked with me (which, I was totally fine with because I didn’t want to be bothered with them), except for one girl who is now my best friend. Because I didn’t try to fit in with the other girls and was just myself, the Lord brought someone into my life who I could have an iron sharpens iron friendship with.

No matter what others may say, don’t change yourself for anybody. What people think of you truly doesn’t matter because we are not to live our lives to please others, but to please our Heavenly Father. Don’t be like this world so that people can like you because if they don’t like you the way you already are, then there’s not point in being their friend.

Do not be ashamed of how God created you to be because you were made in His image. Beautifully and wonderfully are you despite your flaws and the things that people point out. You are His no matter what!

  1. What a great reminder! I am very much a people pleaser, so this totally applies to me! I can also relate to being. Because of my very reserved personality, I don’t have a ton of friends, so being confident, letting my personality show, can definitely be hard. So thank you for the wonderful reminder, Heaven! ❤

    1. Being ourselves around people can be very hard, especially if we think that they’ll judge us. But you know, when you show who you really are, that will keep the wrong people away and bring the people that God wants to use in your life. And even though we were all created differently, we are beautifully unique because of Who our Creator is. ❤ Praise be to God that this encouraged you!

  2. Heaven, I love this! It can be so so hard when everyone around you is doing one thing and you’re trying not to get caught up in it. It felt really great reading this hearing about your experiences and you inspire me so much how confident you sound in who God made you to be- that is something I try everyday to be better at, so thank you for this refreshing encouragement!

    1. Yes, so true, Megan! We cannot give in to peer pressure, even if everyone else is doing a specific thing. It’s not worth it because it will not honor God in any way, so we are not missing out on anything. We must stand our ground no matter what and remember Who we are living for. ❤ I'm grateful that the Lord encouraged you with the words He gave me!

  4. AMEN SISTER!! Love it! You know my story and how similar it is to yours, (at least I’m pretty sure I told you…) but hearing these encouraging words was a blessing. What people say is weird is what they are not used to. Christians are automatically “weird” to the world. We do things differently, for different reasons. And the way we live shows others that being weird is okay. In fact, sometimes it’s even attractive! Why not love someone who willingly sacrifices their time to help you?! Thank you for encouraging me to live “weird” for Jesus. (Even though this comment shows how much my mind goes on rabbit trails…This wasn’t the exact meaning of the post, but it still encouraged me, so thanks! 😁)

    1. Beautifully said! It’s true that once we become Christians, we become “weird” to the world. Those who desire to be true Christ-followers will change from the ways of this world to glorify Christ with their life. And I agree that it is attractive! How a person lives their life reflects where their heart is. It’s so lovely to see, especially with young people.

The world is trying SO hard to influence Generation Z because of how naive young people are due to not having a lot of life experience. That is why as young Christ-followers we must try even harder, with the Lord’s help, to guard ourselves. The Enemy will try to attack in any way possible. “How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.” ~ Psalm 119:9

      1. Wow, love it! “true Christ-followers will change from the ways of the world to glorify Christ with their life.” I need that reminder every day!

The Adversary is alive and well. But God is more powerful and we must turn to Him and keep ourselves in God’s Word, so that we have the powerful weapon of Gods Word! I love that verse!
